Daria Week 2:Completed

Horray for a successful week of crafts.  For this project I went and got a canvas, spray glue, spray paint, and wooden letters.  Honestly the worst part of it was finding a store that had all of the letters I needed!
I convinced my roommates into letting me do a Disney saying!

The spray glue took a little getting used to. At first, I didn't shake it up enough so it came out all foamy and weird.  Finally I got it to work and sprayed the canvas then stuck the letters on.  Some of the letters wouldn't stay very well so I just put some books on the top of them so that they would stick better.

Once all of the letters were glued down I went outside and spray painted it with an almond color spray paint.  I put on two coats of spray paint just to be sure. After I let it dry outside, I brought it inside and ta-da! Hakuna Matata!

Daria's Week 2: Fake Fancy Wood Letters

For week two, I decided to increase the difficulty level of my project...but not by much.  I found this idea on Pinterest and wanted to make one for my living room. Our walls are pretty bare, and this project is simple, and makes the art look fancier than it actually is.  I have all of my supplies ready and have actually completed it, so prepare yourself for the final results.

Tori, we have kind of gone out of order this week with our posts! What are you doing this week?

Daria's Week 1: Completed

Tori's experience seemed to be a lot more difficult than mine.  Unfortunately I don't have any funny pictures of my failed attempts.  Pretty much, I put my scrapbook paper in the frame, and then put the letters on. Boring, I know.  As simple as it sounds, it was actually really hard to put the letters on because I am awful at keeping a straight line.
As you can see, I ran out of letters haha. I didn't have a chance to go back to the store yet but I think you get the point.
For my next project I definitely want to do something more complex because this probably look me 15 minutes tops.  Hooray for next weeks project!

Tori's Week 1: Completed

I'm the type of cook who never reads the recipe. This happens almost every time I cook and it never ends well.On a normal day I'm missing an ingredient. On a bad day I'm missing time ("let the sauce simmer for two hours?!" Sure.).

I did the same thing with this necklace that I do when I cook: I didn't read the instructions and had to figure some stuff out along the way. The first attempt ended like this:

This was a knot that there was no coming back from. The instructions had me working with twelve strands of embroidery thread at a time, which might be do-able the next time I try this. The knot came from having beads that were too small to go through the darning needle (whoops) and ended with me cutting the whole thing up.

Once I downsized to six strands and was able to thread the beads without the darning needle, things went much smoother. I'm pretty happy with how this necklace turned out, even though I like flax & twine's final product better.

My goal for next week: read the directions first. And use a table so that the couch isn't covered with embroidery thread and jump beads.

Daria's Week 1: Meal Planner

I am starting things off even easier than Tori due to my lack of creativity.  I am hoping that with time the artist in me will come out, but then again I have been waiting for 21 years.  I try my best to plan my meals for the week and always just scribble ideas down for the week.  Come Tuesday, the paper is lost and I feel the need to eat everything since I have no guide.  I saw a super easy idea to plan meals for the week and wondered why I never thought of it myself.  All you need is a picture frame, scrapbook paper, letters, and a dry erase board marker.  I have all of my supplies and I plan on starting it as soon as possible to avoid studying for my test tomorrow.  As simple as this sounds, I am sure I will find a way to mess this up. Wish me luck!

Tori, I would love a necklace! Neutral colors would be lovely, that way I can flaunt your craftiness in several outfits--I trust your judgement!  Forgive my lack of links and pictures for now.

Tori's Week 1: Gold Ring Necklace

I'm starting things off easy because I'm a baby and don't want to begin with a terrible craft. I ha(ive one long necklace that I made a few years ago (it's literally just a bird tied to some embroidery thread) that I wear all the time. I fidget too much with heavier long necklaces and they end up in knots because I pretend to hang myself with them. I've also popped keys off of my computer because the necklace got stuck. I was super excited to see this necklace from flax & twine because it feels similar to the necklace I love and looks crazy easy.

I have all my supplies ready and will get started on this when I'm not hungry for lunch. So probably next Thursday.

Daria, what do you have planned for this week? If you're nice, I'll make you a necklace too. Tell me what colors you want.
